Review:
We've read a number of other Mayo/Aycliffe books, and they're always a winner with the kids here. Margaret Mayo seems to have a tried-and-true formula for writing her books, but, as the parent reading them, I find they get a little tiresome, as they are all written in exactly the same fashion, with just the topic changing (transport vehicles, heavy vehicles, emergency vehicles, sea creatures and animals). This particular one is about dinosaurs, which most little boys love. I say most, as my 3 year old doesn't really care for them (yet!), so he didn't really get into this book all that much.

However, despite my wearying of the same-sameness of Mayo's poems, it's still a good book for dinosaur enthusiasts - a few of the names will trip the out-loud reader up, I'm sure, but there is a pronunciation guide inside both the front and back covers.

As I've mentioned previously, I find Mayo's rhythms a little stilted compared to other rhyming children's books, but children don't notice this, and enjoy the poems for the fun mini-stories that they are.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5
